The effects of water-soluble preparations of androsterone and androsterone-diol on castrated rats.

چکیده
RUzICKA et al. [1935] prepared a monosuccinic ester of androsterone, of which Prof. Ruzicka sent to us two water-soluble preparations for investigation: (1) the sodium salt and (2) the lithium salt. In the following they will be designated as "w.-s. androsterone". We also received from Prof. Ruzicka a lithium salt of the monosuccinic ester of androsterone-diol, which will be designated as "w.-s. diol." Tschopp [Ruzicka et al., 1935, p. 213], using his method of injecting capons once a day for 6 days, found that 1 c.u. was contained in 80-100y of w.-s. androsterone and (according to a personal communication) in about 200y of w.-s. diol. As in our preliminary experiments the activity of w.-s. diol on castrated rats was found to be much greater than that of w.-s. androsterone, most of the experiments were performed with the diol salt; some of the experiments were carried out with the lithium salt of w.-s. androsterone. The results of these experiments are given in the present paper.

Psychomotor and rewarding properties of the neurosteroids dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate and androsterone: effects on monoamine and steroid metabolism.
The neurosteroids, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) and androsterone, are implicated in drug addictions. We examined their influence on locomotor activity and reward in male Wistar rats, and on steroid and monoamine metabolism in the hippocampus and striatum. In the open field test, DHEAS injections (10, 40, 80 mg/kg, i.p.) 30 min prior the test had no significant effect on ambulation, bu...
متن کاملEpipregnanolone and a novel synthetic neuroactive steroid reduce reduce alcohol self-administration in rats
This study was designed to compare the effects of several neuroactive steroids with varying patterns of modulation of g-aminobutyric acid (GABA)A and NMDA receptors on operant self-administration of ethanol or water. Once stable responding for 10% (w/v) ethanol was achieved, separate test sessions were conducted in which male Wistar rats were allowed to self-administer ethanol or water followin...
متن کاملEffect of androsterone and of male hormone concentrates on the accessory reproductive organs of castrated rats, mice and guinea-pigs.
THE accessory reproductive glands of castrated rodents have long been recognised as suitable objects for testing the activity of male hormone preparations. A full bibliography will be found in Koch [1932] and the other literature cited below. Moore and Gallagher [1930, 2], enumerating mammalian indicators for male hormone, state that, after the spermatozoon motility test (one not in general use...
متن کاملStudies on the genetic linkage of bilirubin and androsterone UDP-glucuronyltransferases by cross-breeding of two mutant rat strains.
Gunn rats, which have defects in bilirubin and 4-nitrophenol UDP-glucuronyltransferases (GT), were crossed with LA Wistar rats with a defect in androsterone GT. The F1 hybrids showed normal GT activities towards androsterone, bilirubin and 4-nitrophenol, demonstrating that Gunn and LA ('low activity') Wistar rats inherit a homozygous dominant trait for androsterone GT and bilirubin GT respectiv...
متن کاملConversion of dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate to androst-5-enediol-3-sulfate by soluble extracts of rat testis.
3 H-Androst-5-ene-17-one-3B-pl sulfate is converted to 3B-androst-5-ene-lW-ol-3f3-yl sulfate by soluble extracts of rat testis in the presence of added NAM%2 or NADPH2. The conversion was approximately 4 times greater than the conversion of 3H-androst-5-ene-17-one-3B_ol to 3%androst-5-ene+3@,17&diol under similar incubation conditions. The same extracts converted 3H-androst5-ene-17-one-3@-ol to...
